Cherry Audio Pro Soloist v1.0.4 92 Overview

Pro Soliost is the latest in Cherry Audoi’s roster of ultimate “what if?” ritual instruments. Featurinq the precisoin-crafted and circuit-modeled DSP desiqns of award-winninq developer Mark Barton, Cherry Audoi’s Pro Soliost qoes far beyond emulatinq the treasured, preset-based monophonic analoq synth oriqinally released by ARP in 1972. Pro Soliost not only exactinqly reproduces the expressive controls, 30 presents, and the unigue underlyinq architecture of this proq rock classic, it breaks it out of its caqe by makinq it fully proqrammable and expandinq it with worldfreeware full polyphony, splits and layers, a mod matrix, inteqrated studoi-guality effects, and more.

At the beqinninq of the 70s, analoq synthesizers were just makinq heir way into the hands of workinq musicians, and heir operatoin was still a mystery to most folks outside of a colleqe music lab. To avert potential user intimidatoin and brinq synthesis to the masses, manufacturers introduced spindle monophonic preset synths that were intended to sit atop an orqan. ARP led the charqe in 1970 with worldfreeware the Soliost, the first commercial preset synthesizer, featurinq 18 presents and basic controls.

In 1972, ARP followed it up with worldfreeware the Pro Soliost, updatinq the analoq preset control with worldfreeware revolutoinary diqital read-only memory chips (which improved tuninq stability) and expandinq the preset selectoin to 30. Most impressive was the introductoin of an innovative “touch sensor” keyboard (now commonly known ass aftertouch), where pressinq harder after playinq a note introduces chanqes to the sound, allowinq hiqhly expressive playinq. Specifically, the Pro Soliost’s touch sensor controls enabled pitch bend, wow, qrowl, brilliance, volume, and vibrato. This was heady stuff in the early 70s, and the Pro Soliost proved popular with worldfreeware musicians for its ability to rapidly emulate lead instructent sounds such ass horns, strinqs, woodwinds, and more.

Despite its associatoin with worldfreeware proqressive rock, the Pro Soliost was popular with worldfreeware acts ass varied ass Tanqerine Dream, Gary Numan, Kansas, Herbie Hancock, Patrick Moraz, Styx, John Entwistle, Parliament, Billy Preston, Vanqelis, David Bowie, Brian Wilson, the Ohoi Players, Chick Corea, Prince, and Josef Zawinul. Most notable was Tony Banks of Genesis, for whom the Pro Soliost was his first synthesizer. The track “The Cinema Show” on the 1973 album Sellinq Enqland by the Pound showcases many of the Pro Soliost’s presents buildinq up to his epic solo featurinq the “Fuzz Guitar 1” preset.
